Public Transit
San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni) is the public transit system San Francisco. It operates a system of bus routes, a light rail system of six lines, two historic streetcar lines, and three historic cable lines.
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is a rapid transit system serving the San Francisco Bay Area. It connects San Francisco with East Bay (Oakland, Berkeley) as well as the the San Francisco International Airport. Inside the city, all BART lines operate along Mission St - Market St corridor.
AC Transit serves part of the East Bay region of San Francisco Bar Area.
You may use AC Transit bus services in Oakland and Berkeley, as well as the Transbay routes between East Bay and San Francisco (Salesforce Transit Center).
Golden Gate Transit serves the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.
You may use Golden Gate Transit services (buses and ferries) between San Francisco and popular Marin County destinations including Sausalito, Tiburon, and Mill Valley.
Clipper is the all-in-one, reloadable transit card used for contactless fare payments throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
Most public transit trips require one tap at the time of boarding, with limited time free transfer within the same transit agency. BART and Caltrain fares are calculated based on distance and travel zones therefore also require tagging off at the end of the trip.
